The Phelps School

The Phelps School is dedicated to a personalized education for the boy who seeks success academically, personally, and socially. Our first obligation is to create a caring, sensitive climate which emphasizes the positive in every situation. The student's educational program is planned in terms of his individual capacity, ability, needs and interests. This philosophy of dedication to the total development of each boy is accentuated by the disciplined atmosphere, small classes, and daily tutorial support.

Located just 22 miles west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, our safe, 70-acre campus houses 150 students. Our diverse population includes students from 24 US states and 12 different countries. Academics are emphasized by our caring and dedicated faculty members, small classes, afternoon tutorials, and evening study programs. The English as a Second Language program (ESL) addresses the needs of and provides support for our international students. The boarding school's academic program is balanced by an interscholastic athletic program which affords every student an opportunity to participate on a sports team.

Academic and Sport Facilities

The main buildings are clustered along a ridge of high ground with playing fields on either side. Small homelike dormitories reinforce the relaxed family atmosphere which is one of Phelps' main features. Classrooms, dormitories and the dining hall are all just a short walk from each other. On the campus, soccer and lacrosse fields, four all-weather tennis courts, a track and outdoor basketball and volleyball courts provide opportunities for both organized and informal sports. During Winter, the basketball court, wrestling room and the excellent and well equipped fitness center in the gymnasium are always busy.

Dormitories and School Residences

Boys of similar ages and interests are generally housed together, and dormitories are comfortable and relaxed, with senior leadership provided by house parents who also serve on the teaching faculty. The direction and personal attention supplied by teachers during the day is carried over into life in the dorms, and the positive bond that develops between a house parent and a student is a significant factor in each student's experience at The Phelps School
